Reporting to the Inspection Manager, and working with the Senior GMP Inspectors, the GMP Executive Inspector develops, manages and continuously improves the capability of the GMP inspection team.  The role is responsible for supporting team performance through the effective setting of objectives, coordination of activities, prioritisation of work, and the recruitment, development and support of inspectors. The postholder promotes consistent decision-making, effective communication and continuous improvement of systems, processes and policies.

The GMP Executive Inspector provides visible leadership and role-model behaviours, fostering a positive, supportive and high-performing working environment. Effective collaboration across the HPRA is a key aspect of the role, ensuring that interactions with Licensing, Planning and other inspection teams are appropriately resourced, coordinated and managed.

The role also provides leadership within national and European regulatory networks, representing the HPRA on GMP-related committees, working groups and stakeholder forums. The postholder will build effective relationships with regulatory partners and external stakeholders, contribute to regulatory policy and harmonisation initiatives, and use intelligence gained through these engagements to strengthen inspection practice and organisational capability.

In addition, the GMP Executive Inspector conducts inspections and oversees evaluation activities in accordance with EU legislation, national legislation, guidance and relevant standards related to:

  1. Manufacture of human, veterinary and investigational medicinal products, and

  3. Quality control testing for active substances and finished medicinal products.

Maintaining awareness of stakeholder needs, emerging regulatory developments and evolving technologies, the GMP Executive Inspector ensures that teams and stakeholders are kept informed of key developments and decisions. They actively lead the development of inspection capability within the team by ensuring high-quality induction, ongoing technical and skills-based training, continuing professional development (CPD), and structured competency development programmes. They work with HRD and individual inspectors to establish and maintain training and development plans, ensure appropriate training records are maintained, and support inspectors in developing the skills required to undertake cross-operational inspection activities.
