The Enforcement Section of the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) is responsible for safeguarding public health by ensuring compliance with legislation governing medicines, medical devices, controlled drugs, cosmetic products, and other regulated health products.  The section investigates the illegal manufacture, importation, supply, advertising, and online sale of unauthorised or falsified health products, including unauthorised internet pharmacies and illicit supply chains.

The Enforcement and Digital Forensics Officer will be expected to carry out intelligence‑led investigations and evidence‑gathering activities, including the examination and seizure of products, records, and digital material, in accordance with the statutory powers granted to HPRA authorised officers. The Enforcement and Digital Forensics Officer will be required to prepare clear, structured reports to support internal decision‑making, inter‑agency collaboration, and, where relevant, the presentation of evidence in court.

In addition to investigative work, the Enforcement and Digital Forensics Officer will be expected to assist in the forensic examination of digital evidence and to contribute to the development of these kinds of examinations.

The role requires the ability to analyse complex regulatory, technical, and evidentiary information to evaluate public‑health risk, determine the appropriate enforcement response, and prepare material for potential prosecutions where compliance cannot be achieved.

The Enforcement and Digital Forensics Officer will work closely with colleagues across the Enforcement Section and the wider HPRA Departments, as well as with external national partners such as An Garda Síochána and Revenue Customs, and international regulatory counterparts. This collaboration supports effective coordination across intelligence, inspection, and regulatory functions, ensuring that enforcement actions and departmental objectives are met.

We are the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) and we regulate medicines and devices for the benefit of people and animals. We are committed to excellence in health product regulation through science, collaboration and innovation.

Our remit and regulatory functions include human and veterinary medicines, clinical trials, medical devices, controlled drugs, blood and blood components, tissues and cells, and cosmetic products.
